Did You Know #22

Did you know that there are currently 8 lawsuits between the Aldridges and the Refuge property owners (6 OF THE LAWSUITS INITIATED BY THE ALDRIDGES THEMSELVES!!!) and that doesn't even count the lawsuit that has been filed against the City of Lake Havasu!

The Aldridges said publicly that the "truth" is that there are really only THREE lawsuits. They must have forgotten that they personally sued all five of the HOA Board members AND THEIR SPOUSES for actions these Board members took to protect their own private gated community.

Does the City really want to get involved in this mess?

JUST SAY NO -- IT'S TOO RISKY!

The Refuge Annexation - An Overview

On October 26, 2010, our Lake Havasu City Council voted to approve an ordinance (10-1017) to annex a portion of land into Lake Havasu city limits. The 49-acre parcel of land is located inside the master-planned, gated community known as The Refuge. This partial-annexation was requested by the current Refuge Golf Course owners, Jerry and Cindy Aldridge of City Center Executive Plaza, LLC. The Aldridges requested this partial-annexation for the purpose of creating an RV park inside the gates of The Refuge Community, a plan which did not receive approval from the County. It is considered a "partial" annexation because the entire golf course is not scheduled for annexation. Rather, just the former Arnold Palmer Signature golf holes #1-4 along with the Clubhouse facility. In other words, the biggest portion of the golf course land would remain in County jurisdiction. The decision to partially annex and subdivide an existing master-planned subdivision, splitting the jurisdiction inside a gated community between City and County, is unprecedented and carries with it significant complications and potential legal ramifications. These legal issues are already being debated in the courts. It seems appropriate that this pending litigation should be resolved before the City moves forward with this annexation. As a result of these and other concerns, the citizens of Lake Havasu requested an opportunity to vote on this annexation by exercising their rights via the Referendum process. As a result of this petition, a special all-mail election is scheduled for May 17, 2011.
